evaluation

I wanted to use this module to put the skills I had developed during my placements to good use, therefore there has been a mainly 3-D focus to the projects I set my self, and these projects are focused on toys design.
This work allowed me to improve my crafting, drawing and illustrator software skills, I attended the refresher and advance classes for illustrator and I feel that my skills with the software has increased considerably since these classes. The briefs were focused on producing 3-D models, character, pop-up and involved me setting up the hippoblogomus.
The module has allowed me to potentially discover my niche in crafting and a newfound confidence in this field. Although I feel that I made the briefs a bit too difficult to achieve considering the time I had so when I fell behind there simply wasn’t enough hours in the day to catch back up. I also discovered that I require the studio to work therefore I stayed in the studio until it shut on most weekdays throughout the module. I would liked to have kept a better record of my development of my constructs but with me being fairly new to pop-up crafting and 3-D design I made so many mistakes it felt a bit better not to remind my self what I couldn’t do yet and to focus on what I had achieved each day of the development of these projects. I feel that the work I submitted was fairly disorganised and may not be good enough.
My greatest improvement this module has been my crafting skills I have learnt to create 3-D models and pop-ups, the 3-D models brief was based on the recent experience I had on placement at Tigerprint were I had worked on something similar so it was still fresh in my mind and seemed quite straight forward throughout the development of the project. Pop-up design on the other hand is something I found much more challenging as I had very little experience with it and it was very difficult to find an appropriate guide book therefore I pretty much taught myself what will work and won’t work this was enlightening but stressful and time consuming, the pop ups I produced are pretty simple and all follow the same ‘rules’ (two walls with stuff coming off and a centrepiece).
As this project was largely based on my experience in the toy department of Tigerprint I would like to return there for a fourth placement, as well as going to some other toy development studios such as Windle in Newcastle. I also wish to attend the coming London Toy-fair as this would be a really influential event for me to show off my portfolio and to research for my final major project. I intend to become very good at pop-up crafting and to make this the focus of my final major project.
