where i am right now, in brief!

what am i:
a crafter, i am good with 3-d design and papercraft, this is a skill set that i have really developed over the past few months.
character work, the hippoblog has helped me develop and inform my drawing and exploration skills, although i havn't had the time to try anything drastic recently this will really develop in the near future.

what are my interests:
characters, animation i went to see the international short animation contest at leeds film festival a couple of weeks ago.i am also still actively interested in the vinyl world.
children's books & toys, my placements have really got me into this world and my interests are developing daily, currently i am into pop-up books and are pursuing them actively.
animals & nature, still keep me going.

future plans include:
making a swish portfolio on key note to send to paul windle design in newcastle, it would be an awesome placement opportunity.
i would also like to return to tigerprint over christmas.
in january i intend to attend the london toy fair to make some contacts and win.

brief three-Pop-up Cluedo

My third and final brief I will be producing a pop-up version of the board game Cluedo, this will include a full redesign of the packaging, illustration and all the bits. For this brief I will have to improve my crafting abilities in order to create pop-up constructs, this is apparently very difficult so I expect this brief to be very challenging and time consuming. My first steps will be to research and develop my knowledge of pop-up constructs.

here are some of the hippo model mock ups i have produced, i would like to make some molds of the plastercine (light pink) hippo so i designed it with this in mind. i would also like to make articulated plastic hippos later but this may not happen.

Now I have created the models I would like to develop this brief further rather than leave it at my intended products, therefore I will develop two of these models further by designing illustrations, instructions and packaging for these products.

I am now at the stage when I can take this project to the next level and start to work towards a product. Due to my interests and engagement with vinyl collectables & toys I intend to create a hippo product to fit into this medium. Generally the project will be made to include a merchandising branch wherein I will work towards putting the hippo into a number of products like t-shirts, cards, books and models.

a massive source of inspiration to my hippo brief so far has been the vinyl toy market, i have been keeping up to date with the world of toys primarily through Clutter magazine and their blog (which is ace). i really admire the way different identities are applied to the same template characters as this is something i am trying, to an extent, to achieve with the hippo.

tigerprint-reading week

as well as showing off my models i also did some cool work this week. this mainly included the creation of all this mad stuff from some bits that could go in a craft kit. i also did some work on licensed products.
